So this year I will be going into my first year of teaching and I have to say...I'm very nervous and excited at the same time. The past three years of graduate school have been amazing and although I've learned a lot, I know I have not learned everything (especially when current teachers tell you that you haven't and that the first year is the hardest)!
Working with children is something I've always enjoyed and it's exemplified throughout my education background (B.A in Theatre with a concentration in Theatre for Youth and a M.A.T in Elementary Education). I love children (not ready to have my own yet) but I realized I learn so much from them as they do from me. The thought of molding a child's mind is frightening and rewarding. I say frightening because so much is placed in your hands and it's your job to help create something great! It's rewarding because you're doing something you love and can make a difference every day; and that is what makes the rewarding overshadow the frightening.
All in all, I'm beyond excited and trying to wrap my head around what I should do for the first day, first week, Back to School Night, how to decorate my class, determining a classroom management system, what activities will be beneficial...etc. It's nerve-wrecking but I remember in high school when I told my mom how excited I would be to teach and have a classroom to work in. It's here now and that excitement is still there!
So bare with me as I take this journey called teaching...
