Below are some photos and information about my previous class from my first three years of teaching. If you would like to read more up-to-date activities from my classroom, check the Creative Engagement tab.
10/25/15- Story Elements Interactive Notebook Activity
Wow! It's been a month since I've posted anything about what we've been working on in class. So, a few weeks ago I completed the interactive notebook activity that features an activity for main idea and supporting details, character traits, problem and solution and setting. My students and I are currently working on the activities and I have to say some of them are doing well with it (when they follow directions). Below are a few of my students work that on character traits and setting.
9/28/15- Multiplication Facts Drill
So exactly how many of you believe in multiplication drills? At one point I didn't agree with it, but when I thought about it, multiplication drills worked out well for the most of us. Didn't it? It's a bit sad to hear when 5th grade teachers are stressed about their students not knowing basic multiplication facts. By then students are learning more complicated concepts that involve multiplication. This issue is the reason why I created the 'I know my facts' multiplication brag tags and division swagger bands. My students love incentives and if it's going to increase their multiplication fluency, I'm all with it! Believe it or not though, my students love it!
9/19/15- Some weeks in...
So it looks like the classroom is beginning to come together. The anchor charts are definitely starting to roll in and there will be a lot more because I enjoy making anchor charts. I don't have the best handwriting all the time, but I do my best to be creative with them!
I think I should paint that file cabinet..but what color?
9/15/15- Classroom Bulletin Board Header
This year our school implemented Leader in Me which help students learn and practice the 7 Habits. Our school decided to have a superhero theme, so my class is known as the Marvels of Leadership.
Behavior Clip Chart
I honestly do not remember where I got this from. It was such a great download three years ago before I even received a teaching job! During my student teaching, my cooperating teacher used this behavior system and I loved it!
9/13/15- Classroom Reading Nook Reveal
So, I'm not most creative but I'm learning to be a bit innovative...which leads me to this post. For the past three years I have been trying to make my reading center as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Apparently, I did pretty good this year! The reading center is literally my students favorite area of the room (which I love). They're always asking, "Can I read in the reading nook?" I feel a bit bad when I tell them no because we haven't established centers fully and I don't want students to all just ask, 'Can I go to the reading nook? Can I go to the reading area?" Once our class procedures and centers are locked and in place, I think I'll feel a bit more comfortable with them sitting over there.
Take a look at our area...
