Hurricane Joaquin and SC's historic flooding

The country and more than likely the world already knows the impact that Hurricane Joaquin had on South Carolina. I can tell you that it was a shocker for many in our state. The news reported that an event like this happens once in every 500 years for our state...did I hear that right? One in every 500 years? Well, I wouldn't be surprised because with the constant rain we've had for the whole weekend and all the flooding, it's unusual.

It's interesting to see areas that you know affected so badly. The governor has already mentioned that it'll be a bit over a week for the state to actually begin to recover from this; but with the roads and land saturated from all the rain, I doubt anyone will actually feel comfortable driving anywhere (I know I'm not- and I only live ten minutes away from my job)!

There have been some fatalities, people have lost their homes and other possessions and several are without lights and water. We were out of electricity and water for a day, but thankfully my mom is old school and has taught me to make preparations for situations such as this one. So, we had food, bottled water and just played spades to keep us entertained!

South Carolina has truly been through a lot this year, but I believe we will prevail through this as well. Please pray for my state and other areas that have been affected by this storm.
